I love hiphop. I’ve been a fun of the genre for quite some time. Let’s just say since childhood. I won’t claim to be an expert on the genre but I have a level of expectation and “taste”. It’s really hard to get a female rapper that captures your attention but the game is changing. On to the local scene.
Female rappers have been taking the local hiphop scene by storm. As they say, what a man can do a woman can do it better. This statement might not be true in totality but it’s true that they don’t do it any less better. Am I sounding like an apologetic chauvinist? Let me get to the point before I embarrass myself.
Wangechi released the second track from her soon to be released mixtape, Chakula ya Soul, titled “Wanna give it to you”. I want to write a whole lot about the track but I’ll keep it simple and say this is something you would want to listen to. It is up there with the few things, or maybe a lot, I call AWESOME. Having listened to “Only Wanna Give It To You” by Elle Varner Featuring J. Cole, I was afraid that it might spoil the feel but she doesn’t disappoint.
