Equity Group Plc has announced a significant refresh of its Board of Directors following its 20th Annual General Meeting. It has appointed six new Independent Non-Executive Directors with extensive global experience, while four long-serving directors will retire from the Group board to take up roles in its subsidiaries.
The new appointees bring decades of leadership experience from world-renowned institutions such as the World Bank, British International Investment (BII), and JP Morgan.

The newly appointed directors are:
1. Ms. Fiona Asiko Konchellah: A global authority in development finance and impact investing with a 30-year career at institutions like BII (formerly CDC Group) and the Rockefeller Foundation. She was named one of Euromoney’s Top 50 Women in Finance in 2021.
2. Mr. Nick O’Donohoe: A leader in financial services and impact investing, having served as the founding CEO of Big Society Capital and as Head of Global Research at JP Morgan.
3. Dr. Mohamed Mohamud: A seasoned international development professional with over 20 years of experience at the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank, focusing on water, energy, and infrastructure.
4. Dr. Birara Rwabyizaire Dhalliah: An expert in public finance and human resources with 37 years of experience, holding leadership roles at the National Bank of Rwanda and the Rwanda Revenue Authority.
5. Ms. Salome W.W. Gichura (Nini): A seasoned financial executive with 20 years of global experience in portfolio management and investment strategy, previously serving as Head of Equities at Stanlib and as a board member at Centum Investment Company Plc.
6. Mr. David N. Okumali: An international development professional with over two decades of experience at the World Bank and African Development Bank, recognized for leading a major utility turnaround as CEO of REGUERESO SA in the DRC.
The company also announced the retirement of four directors from the Plc board, ensuring continuity by retaining their expertise across its subsidiaries. The retiring directors include:
- Mr. Vijay Gidoomal who joins the Equity Bank Kenya Board
- Dr. Edward Odundo who will serve on the boards of Equity Life Assurance (K) Ltd. and Equity Investment Bank Ltd.
- Dr. Helen Gichohi who will serve on the Equity Bank Tanzania and Equity Bank Uganda boards
- Mr. Sameer Kirubi
