Hip hop heavy weight Khaligraph teamed up with musician Timmy Tdat to give us an upbeat number that is a paean to their neighborhood, Kayole. At first listen, the song wasn’t exactly my cup of tea, but then it grew on me largely because of the humour in the video.
The beat is light and playful, a detour from Khalighraph’s brand of heavy bass but falling right up Timmy Tdat’s alley. Despite this, Khali’s verse doesn’t disappoint and he delivers the ode to Kayole in clever and effortless rhymes, painting you a picture of what it’s like to grow up in the hood.
Timmy Tdat is full energy, hyping the song with his easy-going persona. He is the life of the song. The video is a series of challenges, starting with an eating contest,a fashion show and ending with a dance competition. Khali and Timmy are the judges in all the rounds, rating the contestants on a scale of 1-10.
Kasayole is produced by Magix Enga who samples Chaka Demus and Pliers ‘Murder she wrote’ giving the track all the elements of a club banger. Enos Olik directs the video. He too doesn’t disappoint. The actors take on their roles well, delivering in their task to give you a good laugh while you bop to the jam. Magix Enga although relatively new to the mainstream music scene, is already making a name for himself having been responsible for Khali’s Nataka iyo doh and worked with other big name artists like RnB crooner Otile Brown and Timmy Tdat on ‘Wembe’
My verdict? The song is good, perfect for a party.
