Kenya Wine Agencies Ltd (KWAL) last week launched Viceroy 10, a limited edition vintage brandy reserve. This is the 10 year old variant of the signature Viceroy brandy that Kenyans know and love.

Apparently, Kenya was the first market in the world that the Van Ryn Distillery introduced the 10 year old matured brandy. This was based on the popularity of the brandy in the country where it is a household name. The brandy which has been double distilled and matured in French oak barrels since 2007 is definitely smoother that the kawaida one.

My take is that Viceroy 10 was launched to capture the more mature market who at one point  used to consume Viceroy but later upgraded to whisky as their circumstances changed for the better. I for one used to love the brandy but at some point I felt that I had outgrown it and hence switched to whisky. That being said, I actually liked the smoothness of Viceroy 10 and I am even tempted go back to brandy.

The Viceroy 10 will be retailing at Ksh. 3,000 so look out for it in your local.
