BBC Worldwide’s new global genre brand, BBC Brit, will be available from 01 September 2015 on MultiChoice Africa’s DStv platform. BBC Brit, BBC World News, BBC Lifestyle and CBeebies will form the BBC contingency in the DStv Compact bouquet. The latter two are also new additions.

BBC Brit, which will be on DSTV channel 120, will cover a variety of subjects: cars, science, adventure, business, food, life-changing moments, extreme characters, quirky eccentrics and comedy. Some of the popular shows it is expected to air include Top Gear, Undercover Boss and Dragons Den.

During the launch, Paul Dempsey, President Global Markets at BBC Worldwide said that BBC Brit captures what’s special about British TV and their African launch marks an important step in the company’s global strategy. Adding to that was BBC Worldwide General Manager and Vice President for Africa, Joel Churcher, who said that the content hosted on that channel is designed to reach a diverse pan-African audience, reflecting a wide range of voices, ages and cultures.

New and exclusive titles for Africa on BBC Brit include:

• The Moaning of Life – Radio producer, author and TV presenter Karl Pilkington sets out in his own inimitable style to check out other cultures and experience how they face up to life’s big issues like happiness, death, careers, marriage and children.

• Duck Quacks Don’t Echo – Comedian Lee Mack presents a brand new panel show that explores bizarre and fascinating facts. Each week, three celebrity guests will offer an incredible fact for discussion and with some expert help they’ll attempt to prove to their fellow panelists – and the nation – that it’s true.

• Life is Toff – Combining the charm of a sitcom with the candour of reality TV,Life is Toff visits Britain’s notorious aristocratic family, the Fulfords. This series tells intimate and surprising stories from the private lives of the Fulford family, across an extraordinary and momentous year.

• Youngers – A fresh and exciting new comedy drama set in the UK urban music scene, Youngers follows the journey of two teenage boys, Yemi and Jay, in their quest to break into the music industry
