It’s Friday night and you’re looking forward to a great night out with the guys or girls or both. Even if it is a spontaneous decision you still need a level of planning to get through a night of drinking and debauchery or whatever you do when you go out. A failure to plan is a plan to fail. Here’s what we call the going out checklist. These we would consider the basic requirements to make your night out both fun and safe.

1. Money

You should have a set budget on what you want to spend but most important of all, have the money. You dont want the embarassment of running out of cash in the middle of the night or not having enough when you’ve just ordered a bottle of whisky.

2. Back up money

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. A lot can go down on a night out and some back up (reserve) cash might come in handy. This should not be counted as part of your budget money above. Save something on your phone (just in case you lose your wallet/purse or God forbid you get robbed). This is where mobile money comes in handy.

3. Power bank

It seems everyone has a power bank these days. These come in handy when your phone is on its last breath due to excessive photos, social media, texting to know where your friends are and calls made to get them to the club you’re in.

4. Cab guy’s number/ Easy taxi/ Smart Fellas

Having a cab guy you trust is important when you plan to have a night out. Luckily for you there are apps like Easy Taxi and services like Smart Fellas to make your life easier. Sometimes it is easier to move from place to place via a cab than using a matatu, especially if you’re really wasted.

5. Condoms

In this day and age, condoms are becoming a major part of the going out list. You never know when and where the urge might struck or the thirst might meet its well. Better safe than sorry.

These are the basics as there are a lot more things that go into the going out list depending on gender, age and other factors. What would you add to the list?
