“Have you seen Huddah’s half nude photo?”

“Vera is looking sexy in her new photo.”

We have an array of young socialite ladies that have been gracing our local websites and blogs of late. We have all read the gossip and news on them, not to mention seen their nude photos that have left little to the imagination. All this for a chance to be in the public eye and gain status among their peers.

I wonder if that’s what one has to do in today’s world to be noticed? Sure, it’s not only in Kenya, in the US we have ladies such as Kim Kardashian flaunting their goodies for attention as well.

Now I understand it’s sexy and one should not be scared to show off their bodies, but objectifying the female form, and using your assets to further an agenda does not really make you popular. Rather, it leads to your peers looking down on you, and in turn losing respect with both genders. This is because you reduce your moral standing in the public eye and is not taken seriously.

I think that as a society we have lost what is important in our lives today. Such so called role models are what our young naive sisters, nieces and friends look up to. It also makes the lives of the ladies that are trying to make a name for themselves hard as to gain recognition they may be expected to show some skin.

The media seems to be against this but then again, it is the same media that fans this flame by posting the pictures and writing about the socialites. Why can’t they not pay them any mind and maybe in the end they will no longer have a platform to be seen?

That, I know would be a miracle because today’s society is a bit vain and there’s only so much one could do, especially with the many thirsty Kenyans out there. In the end, hate it or love it the socialites may be here to stay.
