Tata Chemicals and Magadi hosted their Annual Education Day, a celebration that honored exceptional academic accomplishments, highlighted key educational issues, and demonstrated commitment to advancing education in the region.

The education program is a collaborative effort involving the local community, the Kajiado County Government, the National Government, and various stakeholders. It is dedicated to enhancing the quality and delivery of education in the Magadi region. This initiative recognizes and rewards outstanding schools, educators, and students through a competitive and equitable selection process, engaging both the company management and community leaders.

The company’s  impact on community development is a testament to the strong bonds forged with the local population and partnerships with like-minded organizations and government bodies. These partnerships have fostered mutually beneficial relationships, resulting in continuous improvements in the quality of life for the entire area.

Addressing the event, Subodh Srivastav, Managing Director & CEO of Tata Chemicals Magadi, emphasized the company’s commitment and duty to uplift the lives of the local population. Dr. Stephen Moiko, Chairman of the Education Committee, noted the company’s crucial role in education support, particularly in light of the region’s low number of students meeting the admission criteria for national schools and universities. He expressed concerns about low enrollment of girls in schools, further compounded by high dropout rates among them.

The Kajiado County Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho also graced the occasion and commended Tata Chemicals Magadi for its significant dedication and contribution to community development. Dr. Nchorira Naikuni, a lecturer at the Maasai Mara University and the Chief Guest lauded the company’s contributions to education in Kajiado County. He emphasized the need to enhance the student rate of transition from the Maa community into higher education institutions.

Jeremiah Ncharo, the County Education CEC, praised the company for its role in elevating educational standards, which he believes will help increase the percentage of students in Kajiado County gaining admission to public universities, currently at only 14 percent. During the awards ceremony, Magadi Soda School, run by the company, topped the results in the entire County. Memusi School and emerging secondary schools such as Oloika and Oldonyo-Onyoike also received recognition.

Several regional education leaders were also honored during the event. More than a thousand boys and girls graced the event, showcasing their talents through an array of musical performances, traditional dances, poetry recitals, and individual
presentations.

Tata Chemicals Magadi’s Education Day is a testament to its commitment to educational excellence and community development, and it underscores the transformative power of education in the Magadi region. This includes annual support for 38 students from the Magadi Division, covering their complete four-year secondary school tuition fees. Additionally, the company contributes to essential infrastructure and resources in public schools, including providing access to clean water, supplying desks,and funding teacher salaries.
