The Lawyers Hub has launched the Africa start-up Law Accelerator in partnership with HYBR South Africa, GoDo Hub Nigeria and Tech Build Africa. This initiative is aimed at leveraging the law to help startups scale their businesses.
The program will support and promote start-up growth by strategically combining the start-up strategy and business development with training on legal strategy. Applications are open to pre-seed startups based in Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania for the pilot program, which is scheduled to run for 12 weeks in the first half of 2021.
The Lawyers Hub has also announced the second edition of the Africa LawTech Festival to take place from the 5th-9th of July, with the support of the Omidyar Network.
The virtual edition themed Digital Policy for Economic Growth, will be centered around 5 summits
- Internet Governance and Content Moderation
- Startup and Trade Law
- Artificial Intelligence and Ethics
- Digital Identity
- Blockchain and Digital Currencies.
Participants may attend summit sessions, facilitate a session, host a watch party or showcase a product. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to interact with peers in various fields of law and technology, offering their insights and experiences towards a shared goal policies to overcome the challenges poised by COVID-19.
The Lawyers Hub also launched the Africa Digital Policy Institute (ADPI) program, which will cultivate the next generation of digital policy leaders through its holistic learning experience. With the support of the Omidyar Network, the institute shall be at the forefront of shaping the future of Africa’s digital policy to be inclusive, responsive and responsible.
