The OPPO Series of phones are known to have great cameras and they keep upping their game with each new offering in the series.

The OPPO Reno5 runs on Android 11 and ColorOS 11.1 operating systems. It comes with Qualcomm SM7250 Snapdragon 765G processor, 128 GB internal storage, and 8 GB RAM. It also comes with 4300 mAh battery with ultra-fast 50W flash charging.

It comes with a 32MP selfie camera and Quad rear camera setup that consists of 64 MP (wide), 8 MP (ultrawide), 2 MP (macro) and 2 MP (depth).

What the OPPO Reno5 cameras offer

  • AI camera that recognize things you are about to take pictures of and then optimizes the settings automatically.
  • Night mode for taking pictures at night
  • Portrait mode for taking awesome portraits
  • Beautification and bokeh effects for selfies to make them awesome.
  • It also has a gesture selfie taking mode for taking more composed selfies.
  • Other features include pro-mode, HDR, panorama, macro, time-lapse, slow motion and dual-view video.

Selfie Camera

The selfie camera comes nestled snugly on the left front of the phone. It packs an impressive 32 Megapixels that takes really clear selfies.

The selfies are okay especially in high light situations. The camera struggles in low light situations even during the day.

The camera slightly distorts colours especially on beauty mode. This may be because of the filters that that mode comes with. On beauty mode, faces are more smoother than normal and it sometimes appears unnatural.

Night selfies are a problem even when the flash is turned on. You need to go to a place with enough light to be able to get a great picture.

Here are some of the selfies I took with the phone on regular mode, beauty mode and portrait.

Rear Camera

The phone comes with four cameras at the back i.e. 64 MP (wide), 8 MP (ultrawide), 2 MP (macro) and 2 MP (depth).

On normal mode, even with AI mode turned on, the cameras work best in high and medium light conditions. In low light conditions it is best to use night mode or to use a flash. Night mode is highly recommended if the subject you are taking pictures of is far from you.

Final thoughts

The OPPO Reno5 cameras are quite good especially in high and medium light situations. For low light situations, you need choose features such as night mode to be able to take great pictures. All in all, the cameras do quite well and take quite great pictures.

The OPPO Reno5 is retailing at Ksh. 41,999 and it is available at OPPO Kenya shops countrywide.
