Given the way some people drive on the roads, one would be forgiven to think that they never saw the inside of a driving school. In a bid ensure that our roads are safer for everyone, we will provide you with a refresher course courtesy of Vivo Energy Kenya.

In this article we will focus on hand signals and road markings;

1. Hand Signals

This sign indicates that the driver is informing the one behind them to move out or that they intend to turn right.

This means that the driver is telling the one behind them to slow down or that they wish to stop.

This means that the driver wants to turn right

This means that the driver wants to go straight ahead

This means that the driver wants to turn left

Road Markings

Short broken lines in the centre of the road are used to separate lanes of traffic going in separate directions.

Single or double continuous white lines across the road along the centre of the road alerts motorists to keep to the left of the line (exit in an emergency or for access)

This is a pedestrian crossing and motorists should give pedestrians the right of way.

A continuous solid yellow line in the middle of the road are warning lines marked between the areas of the road where one cannot see the road ahead very well.
