Barrack Obama, Margret Kenyatta, Michelle Obama and Uhuru Kenyatta

Barack Obama became the President of the United States in January 2009. A few years later in April 2013, many kilometres away Uhuru Kenyatta was sworn in as the Kenyan President. The two men at first glance do to seem to share much in common except their Kenyan heritage. A deeper look at their history however reveals interesting similarities between the two presidents.

1. Year of birth

They were both in 1961.

Uhuru was born on October 26th 1961. Obama was born on August 4th 1961.

2. Writing hand

Both men are left handed.

3. Their names

They both don’t have first English names as first names.

Their first names have Kiswahili meanings. Uhuru means liberty and Barrack was adapted from Baraka which means blessings.

The two men prefer using their first and last names and their middle names are not well know. Uhuru’s middle name is Muigai and Obama’s is Hussein.

4. Their Fathers

Their fathers were Western educated. Jomo Kenyatta studied at the University College London and the London School of Economics. Barrack Obama senior studied at the University of Hawaii and Harvard University.

Their fathers worked together. Obama’s father worked as a senior economic analyst in the Ministry of Finance during Uhuru’s father tenure. They fell out spectacularly and Obama senior was fired and blacklisted.

Both their fathers had 4 wives. Jomo Kenyatta’s four wives were Grace Wahu, Grace Wanjiku, Edna Grace Clarke and Ngina, while Barack Senior’s four wives were Kezia Aoko, Ann Dunham, Ruth Beatrice Baker and Jael Otinyo.

5. Their wives

Both their wives were born in 1964. Margaret Gakuo Kenyatta was born April 8th 1964. Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama was born on January 17th 1964.

Both their wives first names start with the letter M.
