Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o has gone one step closer to being a powerhouse name in Hollywood after being nominated for a ‘Best Actress in a Supporting Role’ Golden Globe Award for her role in 12 years a Slave, alongside some of the biggest names in the film industry. This comes close on the heel of her receiving a Screen Actors Guild awards nomination for her supporting role in 12 Years a Slave.
Also nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture are: Sally Hawkins, Blue Jasmine; Jennifer Lawrence, American Hustle; Julia Roberts, August Osage County; and June Squibb, Nebraska.
The historical epic, ’12 Years a Slave’ leads the nominations for next years Golden Globes, gathering a total of 7 nominations in different categories, alongside ‘American Hustle’, according to an announcement made by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
‘I can’t express the excitement I felt hearing my name called while listening from Paris this afternoon,’ Lupita told Forbes. ‘ I screamed and the tears started immediately.’
Lupita’s co-star, British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor also was acknowledged for his role as Solomon Northup, a free black man who is kidnapped and sold in the same film, in the Best Actor in a motion picture, drama category.
The Golden Globe Awards will be telecast live on 17th January 2014, and be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
