We had a few questions for iCon, one of the folks behind www.diasporadical.com here’s what he had to say…

1.What was your first phone?

A Motorola Timeport. Brick phone. I swear I thought it was the dopest thing ever. Then I got a Nokia 3310 and …well….that’s still my all-time favorite cellphone.

2. What do you prefer? Facebook or Twitter? Why?
I dislike both. I’m old school; I like to meet people or talk to them on the phone if need be. But if I had to pick one, Twitter. It’s more to the point; address somebody directly and briefly. People should be limited to talking in 140 characters or less off twitter too. This is not only entertaining, but it makes it easy to weed out the wackos in 140 x-ters. I love all my followers and anybody I’m following is solid in my book.

3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In the office, working. Hopefully, waiting to get home and chill with the kiddies and the lady. No matter how great of a success or failure I may end up being, I’ll never stop working; of this one thing I am certain. The only difference between now and then is I hope to be hitched and daddying. Or at least making strides in that general direction

4. Any question for us? We’ll publish our answer as well.
Do these jeans make my ass look fat?

  • *beep* mteja wa nambari uliopiga, hapatikani kwa sasa. Sorry, the mobile subscriber cannot be reached…

5. What would you do if you were president for a day?
Revolution; I’d start one.

6. Whats your favourite book& movie?
Book – (non-religious) The 48 Laws of Power and Movie…that’s tricky. Toss up between A Clockwork Orange, Tzameti 13, The Matrix, and The Godfather

7. Who/What inspired you to do what you do now?
Four people: my uncle who’s always told me the right thing at the right time. My mother who insists I should go back to school and is probably right. A fellow by the name of Ty who’s an excellent writer and teacher. Ty and I were in the same hospital after we both broke some bones in 2005. That man remains my mentor to this day. And my niece. Every time I see her, I want to be a better person.

8. If you were to change jobs, what profession would you get into? Why?
I want to say nothing. I think I’ve finally found a balance that works. But if I had to: I’d be an assassin. There are a lot of very stupid people in power who need to take permanent naps and I’d be glad to give my life to that cause for the right price.

9.If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Predicting the future. Weird(cocky) as it sounds, I’m pretty good at patterns and reading people so I have a lot of fun placing bets in my head on what people will do next. I usually win.

10. If you were deserted on an abandoned island what 5 things would you want
to have?

A box of pens,

A box of notebooks,

A carton of cigarettes,

A carton of lighters and a fully loaded Sig Sauer P220 compact.

That last one is just in case someone interrupts me while I’m writing or drawing. Also, I’ve quit
smoking but if I were about to be stranded on an island, I’d smoke like an old lorry’s exhaust pipe when it’s going uphill.

11. If you were a car, what car would you like to be? Why?
Probably a Bowler Nemesis. Very stripped to the basics and built for a purpose. I’m not good at the niceties and the cushioning and padding, but if you test me in my fields of competence, I seldom disappoint. At least I work hard not to.

12. If you could be in any band in the world, which one would you like to be
in? Why?

Citizen Cope, The Roots or The Wailers.
