The Infinix S Series phones are known for their cameras with the selfie camera being the main focus of the phone. This is probably because this particular range of phones were created for young people and we know how young people love selfies. This does not mean that the rear cameras are shabby. They also deliver, especially for a budget phone.
The Infinix S5 comes with a non-removable Li-Po 4000 mAh battery. The Infinix S5 is available in Kenya in 2 variants i.e. 128GB internal storage + 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage + 4GB RAM. The S5 lite will also come in two variants i.e. 32GB internal storage + 3GB RAM and 64GB internal storage + 4GB RAM. The main difference being that the S5 has quad rear cameras while S5 lite has triple rear cameras.
The camera set up includes a 32MP seflie camera and on the back there is a Quad-AI camera setup comprised of a 16MP main camera, 5MP ultrawide, 2MP for depth and a 2MP low-light sensor.
What the Infinix S5 cameras offer
The camera features include;
- AI CAM – This feature is able to automatically recognize various objects you are taking pictures of and then optimizes the light to fit it.
- Beauty mode – This feature is able to optimize the lighting when taking pictures of people. It is available on the front and rear cameras
- Other features include Bokeh Mode, AR Shot, and Panorama
Selfie Camera
The selfie camera comes nestled snugly on the left front of the phone. It packs an impressive 32 Megapixels.
Here are some of the selfies I took with the phone on regular mode, beauty mode and portrait.
The selfies are okay especially in high light situations. The camera struggles in low light situations even during the day.
The camera slightly distorts colours especially on beauty mode. This may be because of the filters that that mode comes with. On beauty mode, faces are more smoother than normal and it sometimes appears unnatural.
Night selfies are a problem even when the flash is turned on. You need to go to a place with enough light to be able to get a great picture. This is among the things that you could really use with an improvement.
Rear Camera
The phone comes with four cameras at the back i.e. 16MP main camera, 5MP ultrawide, 2MP for depth and a 2MP low-light sensor.
Here are some of the pictures I took. I took them in AI CAM, Beauty and Bokeh mode.
The cameras work best in high and medium light conditions. As with the selfie camera, the rear cameras really struggle in low light conditions even with HDR and flash turned on.
The rear cameras also slightly distort colours especially bright ones. Dark colours are largely okay.
Final thoughts
The Infinix S5 cameras needs a bit of work especially in low light situations and also where preserving original colours is concerned. This is a concern especially if you think about other phones which are in the same price range.
