Delvin Miruara and Mathew Kimeli won in the women’s and men’s category respectively in the Safaricom Mombasa 10 km road race.
Delvin Miruara won the women’s category of Safaricom Mombasa 10 km road race in a time of 36:10.45. Second position was Cynthia Kosgei followed by Roseline Chepketer in time of 37:00.36 and 37:22.95 respectively.
In the Men’s category, Mathew Kimeli, the Iten champion clinched first position in time of 31:27.23. Following closely was Stephen Mwendwa in time of 31:38.76, third position was Solomon Kiplimo in time of 31:45.23.
“The weather was tough but with training it makes it better. I’m now preparing to go to Taita Taveta, Madoka Half Marathon.” Said Delvin Miruara

The winners received Ksh. 100,000, second and third place finishers take home Ksh. 50,000 and Ksh. 30,000 respectively. The top 10 athletes were equally rewarded.
The remaining races in the Safaricom Athletics Calendar are the Madoka Half Marathon which will take place on 5th October 2019 followed by Isaiah Kiplagat Memorial Ndalat cross-country and the Mombasa, Kisii, Imenti and Kisumu road races.
Safaricom announced the sponsorship of upcoming athletics events at the Kenyan Coast under the Safaricom Athletics Series to the tune of Ksh. 3 million. The athletics events included the 14th Edition of the Madoka Half Marathon which will be held on 5th October 2019 at Ngerenyi Stadium, Taita Taveta County. The event will receive sponsorship of Ksh. 2 Million. The Mombasa 10km Road race which will take place on 22nd September will receive Ksh. 1 million.
