Safaricom has today announced the appointment of Sateesh Kamath as its Chief Financial Officer and executive board member effective August 1st 2016. Mr. Kamath joins the telco from Vodacom Tanzania where he was the CFO and executive director in Vodacom Tanzania. He comes with over 19 years experience in markets across Asia, Europe and Africa.

His appointment comes after the departure of John Tombleson who will be leaving  after a 5 year stint with the telco. Tombleson has moved back home to Vodafone New Zealand to take up a new role as the Intergration Director of the merger between Vodafone New Zealand and Sky New Zealand. The announcement of his imminent departure came soon after the release of the KPMG report led many to think that it was the reason he was leaving something which the telco has denied.

Bob Collymore the Safaricom CEO had this to say, “Mr. Kamath will join the company to steer its next phase of development as we work towards becoming ensuring our business continues its sustainable growth.”
