Despite the health risks associated with it, a large number of the world’s population still smoke. Quiting the habit is difficult but there are several benefits that should motivate one to this end.

The most of obvious benefit for those who quit smoking is with regards to ones health. Smoking is one of the largest cause of premature deaths in the world and is linked with several fatal conditions such as cancer and heart disease. Quiting the habit will thus have a good effect on ones health and will help add a few years to your life.

It also helps if you’re looking to keep fit. Trying to go on an exercise regime and still smoking is counter-productive. The smoke affects your lungs and makes it difficult for you to breathe deep easily which is necessary as the body needs the extra oxygen when one is engaging in physical exercise.

Cigarettes are not free and smokers normally spend a considerable amount of their finances over extended periods of time. If you’re looking to save a few shillings and maybe invest into something then you should probably start by quiting. Think of the process of quiting as an investment in itself. How many cigarettes or packs do you smoke a day? Now calculate the daily amount of money you sepend? Multiply by 30 for how much you spend in a month and 12x for how much you will have spend in a year. Trust me, it’s a bucketload of cash.

Most of the smokers don’t know the content that go into otheir cigarettes and should note that each cigarette contains over 4000 chemicals, most of which are known to be toxic. They don’t call them cancer sticks for nothing. Some of the chemicals include tar. About 70 per cent of the tar is left in your lungs, causing a range of serious lung conditions

The second hand smoke also affects those around you so you run the risk of being a health hazard to your loved ones if you keep smoking. Quitting smoking decreases the excess risk of many diseases related to second-hand smoke in children, such as respiratory diseases (e.g., asthma) and ear infections.
