House of lungula

House of Lungula has bagged the most nominations for the Kalasha Awards 2014 which are in their 5th Edition this year. The 2014 nominees were unveiled by the Kenya film Commission (KFC), 2014 Nomination Academy at IMAX cinema.

The film has been nominated in ‘Best Feature Film’, ‘Best Sound Mixing’, ‘Best Lighting’, ‘Best Editing’, ‘Best Art Direction’ and ‘Best Original Score’ categories. It’s actor, Gerald Langiri, got a nomination for ‘Best Lead Actor’, actress, Sarah Hassan received a nod for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ and Alex Konstantaras scooped a nomination for ‘Best Director of Photography’.

This year’s Kalasha Awards attracted 713 entries, a whooping 516 entries over and above the 197 received in last year’s Kalasha Awards. The 2014 Kalasha Film and TV Awards has 33 categories with new categories in “Best Mobile Film” and “Best High School Feature”.

“The process involved watching each film as entered frame by frame and took the nomination academy two weeks to complete; obviously the high numbers mean that more and more Kenyans are discerning of local content and I can comfortably say that we have talent”, notes Eston Munyi, the Chairman of the Nomination Academy.

A report on recommendations as observed by the nomination academy will be presented to the commission during the 2014 Gala event and thereafter will be available at the KFC offices for public viewing.

The 2014 films up for nomination and public voting will be screened up to the county level in an initiative termed as the “County Film Screening Initiative”, with venues such as Alliance Francaise and USIU in Nairobi, Kibera Youth in Kisumu, Alliance Francaise in Mombasa and Kericho being locked down for screening.
