craftbeer

Kenyans rarely trust any drink not in a bottle and that is especially true with their beer. You might argue against this quoting local brews and the illegal kind but what all these have in common is that one knows where the drink comes from. This leads us to craft beer and why you should be interested.

What is craft beer? The simplest of definitions would be that craft beer is beer made from a craft brewery. A craft brewery is small, independent and traditional and this is the next trend setting root in town.

Small: Annual production of beer less than 2 million barrels. Beer production is attributed to a brewer according to the rules of alternating proprietorships. Flavored malt beverages are not considered beer for purposes of this definition.
Independent: Less than 25% of the craft brewery is owned or controlled (or equivalent economic interest) by an alcoholic beverage industry member who is not themselves a craft brewer.
Traditional: A brewer who has either an all malt flagship (the beer which represents the greatest volume among that brewers brands) or has at least 50% of its volume in either all malt beers or in beers which use adjuncts to enhance rather than lighten flavor. (via Top of the Hops Beerfest)
If you ask anyone in town to give some of the best pubs in town one name will make the list Brew Bistro. Brew Bistro is probably the only Microbrewery in town and you know uniqueness sells.
So why should you make a stop at a microbrewery and try out some of their craft beer?
1. Craft beer tastes better
2. They contain more alcohol
3.  Craft beer has more nutrients thus more health benefits
4. More choices
5. Know the source and who makes your beer
These are just a few of the reasons but if you want to be cool and have some fun times with a story to tell then you should probable make a date with a microbrewery as soon as possible.
