To be honest, personally I don’t know what to make of socialites thus I shall remain impartial. Then why I’m I writing this you ask. I needed to understand how the interwebs defines a socialite and ran into the wiki how page on becoming a socialite. Of course this might have a very different context in the local entertainment scene, so lets have some fun with this.
There are 3 phases in a socialite’s “life cycle” and I have broken it down to a 3 part series. First part is climbing up the social ladder and making a name for yourself.
1. Create the suitable background for yourself
Depending on how you look you can allege to come from an exotic mix of local tribes or be bi-racial. As highlighted on the page, “Your roots are very important for other socialites; one without a prestigious familial background is often qualified as “unsuitable” for becoming a socialite”.
2. Get the right direction
If there’s something Kenyans are good at is creativity. Be creative, if you have a heavy influence of the mother tongue lose it and pick something people would associate with a group of schools education. But don’t go all American slang, that’s too mainstream.
Oh, the page says to go to an Ivy league university. Just so that I won’t be randomly assassinated in the streets I shall not give you a list but ask around someone will tell you the “best” universities to “claim” to have or go to to.
3. Get an extremely way paying job
Most settle for “being” models. FYI, this is not a subaru to anyone so please don’t attack my smallwig twitter page.
4. Learn how to promote yourself
This is an interesting part. Get a twitter account (that is a must) and maybe a facebook page. Post “random” stuff that will get you lots of followers.
5. Find someone rich to marry
Don’t know how much this applies in Kenya but make sure you are known to hangout with the creme-Del-a-creme of society.
6. Do your homework
aka follow some bigwigs or so called “socialites” and learn the tools of the trade.
