As the world marks World Emoji Day on Saturday, 17 July, Facebook has monitored the use of emojis in Facebook posts for between 4th April and 3rd July, 2021.

The popular food and drink emojis are, birthday cake, aubergine , short cake , candy , and lollipop . Most popular by age include, 18-24, face with tears of joy , love heart and rolling on the floor laughing ? . 25-44, face with tears of joy and love heart ,45+, love heart , person with folded hands , and face with tears of joy .
As by gender, globally, over the past 3 months, women created more posts containing emojis than men. In Kenya, Face with tears of joy , love heart and rolling on the floor laughing ? emojis are popular for both men and women.
Additionally, Messenger is launching Soundmojis, a new feature that enables people to send short sound clips in Messenger chat. With the new feature, people will be able to choose from a library of options that range from sound effects (crickets ?, clapping , drumroll ?, and evil laughter ), to popular song clips. Each sound is sent as an emoji (with no words), providing surprising delights through culturally-relevant audio clips.
Each sound is represented by an emoji and keeping the visual emojis we all love in play, while bringing sound into the mix.
