Strathmore University has launched a competition for marketing students in Kenya dubbed The Crucible. The Crucible will be run by the Strathmore Marketing Club in partnership with Mediacom East Africa and JWT SCANAD.

The Crucible is a career launchpad for young Kenyan marketers and will take place over a period of seven weeks. In the competition, young marketers will be challenged to work in a team of 2 or 3 to create an integrated marketing communication campaign for KCB Bank. To participate, the young marketers need to students in their second-last or final year of study in a marketing or communication degree or diploma.

The Crucible student marketing competition will run as follows

1. Registration – 27th August to 14th September

Students willing to participate in the competition are expected to choose Team Leaders who will register their teams for the contest via The Crucible Website. Register your teams here thecruciblekenya.org/register. You need to be in teams of 2-3.

The competition brief will sent to all registered teams via the email addresses provided by the Team Leaders. This is the official start time of the competition.

2. Workshop – 14th September

All registered teams will be required to attend or stream the WPP-Scangroup Creative Workshop to understand KCB’s expectations and familiarize with the creation process of a marketing campaign.

3. Submission – 30th September to 5th October

All registered teams will be required to submit their Plansbook by 5th October 2019 at 11:59PM. All Plansbooks are subjected to the 1st Judging Round.

4. Finalists announcement – 15th October

After reviewing all the Plansbooks, the judges will announce the 5 finalists that have emerged from the 1st Judging Round and who proceed to the 2nd Judging Round.

5. National Conference and Awards Show – 30th October

The 5 finalists will present to the judges during the National Conference and Awards Show. Judges select the 3 best teams who are announced and awarded during the Awards Show.

6. Winners Awards

1st Place prize

  • 50,000 Shillings (to be shared among the team members)
  • A trophy and certificate of merit for each team member
  • Names featured in the media
  • Paid internships at WPP-Scangroup (with a chance for full-time employment)
  • Opportunity to work on the execution of your campaign idea as Honorary Creative Directors
  • Free admission into the IBC Programme at the International School of Advertising (ISA-Africa)

2nd place prize

  • 25,000 Shillings (to be shared among the team members)
  • A trophy and certificate of merit for each team member
  • Names featured in the media
  • 6-month mentorship with a senior marketer at WPP-Scangroup

3rd place prize

  • 15,000 Shillings (to be shared among the team members)
  • A trophy and certificate of merit for each team member
  • Names featured in the media
  • 6-month mentorship with a senior marketer at WPP-Scangroup
