The month of December comes with a lot of travelling for most Kenyans either to their rural homes or to varied holiday destinations. An internet connection isn’t always guaranteed and that can be a bummer when you need to keep up with your favourite shows. Luckily, Showmax has you covered with their download feature that lets you take your shows with you. You can download up to 25 shows at a time and view them offline. You keep them for 30 days, unless you start watching something – then you’ll have 48 hours to finish it.

Here is how to do it.

  1. If you don’t already have a Showmax account, go to Showmax.com to sign up.
  2. Download the Showmax app on your smartphone or tablet for either iOS or Android.
  3. Open the Showmax app and choose the show or movie you want to watch offline.
  4. Click on the DOWNLOAD button, right next to the PLAY NOW button.
  5. You’ll get a menu with download quality options to choose from – Low Quality, Standard Quality, Good Quality and High Quality.
  6. You are now free to enjoy your viewing offline once the download is complete.

Here are five recommendations on what to download;

1. The Blue Planet – A natural history of the oceans

Did you know that despite the ocean covering 70% of our planet, we have only explored less than 5% of it? If you’re like me, and the world underwater fascinates you, then this British documentary on the ocean environment is required viewing.

2. HBO’s The Deuce

Set in 1970’s New York, The Deuce follows the lives of two brothers, Vincent and Frank Martino (both played by James Franco), who operate as fronts for the mafia against the backdrop of a worsening drug epidemic, gang violence, and the legalisation and the rise of the porn industry.

3. South Park

South Park is an animated sitcom that satirises and provides commentary on American current affairs while it chronicles the bizzare adventure of four friends, Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick in their fictional town of South Park. The latest season (21) is on Showmax.

4. The Big Bang Theory, S1-9

The series that made being nerdy a cool thing, The Big Bang Theory is the story of four socially awkward scientists who get a taste of life outside their labs with the help of their neighbour Penny.

5. Superstore, S1-2

Superstore is a hilarious American sitcom that showcases the lives of the employees of the Cloud 9 department store. If you enjoyed Two Broke Girls, then this is definitely a must watch.
