With ICT dominating almost all aspects of our life that is from the banking app that you use to withdraw funds from your account to the cards that you use to make online payments among others. Cyber security has become a recurrent theme In the ICT industry for a long time. This is what led to the development of AfricaHackon. It all started out when two Information Security Engineers met on Facebook and shared their interest in matters information security. They soon came to realize that people did not know much about cyber security and the industry lurked in the shadows. They later formed a whatsapp group with more professionals whose members thought they should expand the scope of the group hence the formation of the annual conference.
AfricaHackOn is East Africa’s premier technical computer security collective which brings together the individual talents of the best and brightest security professionals in the region. AfricaHackon seeks to address these challenges by raising awareness on matters affecting cyber security and also grooming upcoming talent into the job market. The conference will be going down this year from the 28th to 29th July 2016 at the Michael Joseph Center, Safaricom House, Westlands.
AfricaHackOn is different from the other seminars which are all talk in that it is hands on. There are live demos whereby hacking is done right in front of your eyes for most of the talks held. This year’s conference is bringing corporate players into the party to showcase why they should consider local talent that has been successfully bred since 2013. It intends to provide a platform for AfricaHackon inductees to showcase their skills and talents to the public. The different mind-bending presentations and demonstrations promise to leave attendees yearning for more.
BAKE has partnered with AfricaHackOn again this year and will be conducting digital skills training during the conference in a bid to impart digital skills to internet users. This training will run from 2.00 pm -3.50 pm on Friday 29th July 2016.
