Google released their report of the top searches in 2014 and a sublist to that was the of the beers most searched for across the globe. According to Google, the annual list, formerly known as “Zeitgeist,” offers insight into “what the world was searching for throughout 2014 – from overall searches to a wide range of category-specific queries, across health, pop culture, sports, food/drinks,entertainment, politics and more. Here’s a look into the top 10 searched beers globally in 2014.
1. Budweiser
Budweiser is a pale lager produced by Anheuser–Busch InBev. Introduced in 1876 by Adolphus Busch from St. Louis, MO it has grown to become one of the highest selling beers in the United States, and is available in over 80 markets worldwide—though, due to a trademark dispute, cannot necessarily do so under the Budweiser name. It is made with up to 30% rice in addition to hops and barley malt.[1] Budweiser is produced in various breweries located around the world. It is a filtered beer available in draught and packaged forms.
2. Corona
Corona Extra (Coronita in Spain) is a pale lager produced by Cervecería Modelo in Mexico for domestic distribution and export to all other countries besides the United States, and by Constellation Brands in Mexico for export to the United States. The split ownership is a result of an anti-trust settlement permitting the merger of Grupo Modelo with AB InBev. It is one of the top-selling beers worldwide.[2] Outside of Mexico, Corona is commonly served with a wedge of lime or lemon in the neck of the bottle to add tartness and flavor.
In the United States, Corona Extra is the top selling imported beer. Although widely consumed year round, Corona is generally viewed as a summertime beverage
3. Keystone
Keystone beer is a product of the Coors Brewing Company in Golden, Colorado. It was first introduced in Chico, California in September 1989. Keystone can be found in canned, kegged, and, occasionally, bottled form. Keystone Light has a 4.13% ABV;[1] a concentration less than standard American lagers, and roughly equal to other macro “light” brews.
4. Miller High Life Beer
Miller High Life was put on the market in 1903 and is Miller Brewing’s oldest brand. High Life is grouped under the pilsner category of beers and is 4.6% ABV.[5] The prevailing slogan on current packaging is “The Champagne of Beers”, an adaptation of its long standing slogan “The Champagne of Bottle Beers”. Accordingly, this beer is noted for its high level of carbonation, making it a very bubble-filled beverage, like champagne. It was originally available in miniature champagne bottles.
5. Blue Moon
Blue Moon Belgian White is a Belgian-style witbier brewed by Blue Moon Brewing Co. originally in Golden, Colorado, that was launched in 1995. It is available in cans, bottles and kegs, and has 5.4% alcohol by volume. It is sometimes served with a slice of orange, which its brewmasters claim accentuates the flavor of the brew
6. Coors
For much of its history, Coors beer was a regional product and its marketing area was confined to the American west. The Coors Brewing Company is a regional division of the world’s seventh-largest brewing company, the Molson Coors Brewing Company. The operations in the US are now part of the joint venture with SABMiller called MillerCoors.
7. Bud Light
Bud Light is a Light Lager style beer brewed by Anheuser-Busch in Saint Louis, same company that does Budweiser.
8. Pabst
Pabst Blue Ribbon is a beer sold by Pabst Brewing Company, originally established in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1844 but now based in Los Angeles. Pabst Blue Ribbon is contract-brewed in six breweries around the U.S. owned by Miller Brewing Company . Originally called Best Select, and then Pabst Select, the current name comes from the blue ribbons tied around the bottle neck between 1882 and 1916.
9. Modelo
Negra Modelo is a 5.4% abv Vienna lager[11] first brewed in Mexico by Austrian immigrants, and was introduced as a draft beer in 1926.[12][13] Negra Modelo comes in an unusually shaped, wide brown bottle with a trademark gold label. The full name of the beer is Cerveza Negra Modelo. The word “modelo” means “model” or “example” in Spanish. “Negra” means “black” or “dark” and modifies “cerveza.”
Modelo Especial was first bottled in 1925;[14] the #3 imported beer in the U.S.,[14] selling 22 million cases annually.
Modelo Light is a light lager that was first produced in 1994.
10. Sierra Nevada
Sierra’s flagship Pale Ale has been described as “a balance between aggressive hops and hearty malt flavor”, with its Cascade hops offering a grapefruit aroma and fruity palate.[24] Like several other Sierra Nevada offerings, it is bottle-conditioned.[25] It is the best-selling pale ale in the United States as of 2012.
