In a press statement, the artist formerly known as Zaituni Wambui announced a significant rebrand, revealing a new stage name: Zaituni. This change marks a pivotal moment in the artist’s career, signaling a move toward greater artistic and personal autonomy.
“After careful reflection with my team, we’ve concluded that rebranding is an important step towards the next phase of my career,” the statement read. The decision to drop the last name and move forward as Zaituni is a desire to have “full autonomy over my name and likeness, not only as an artist but also in my personal life.”
Despite the name change, Zaituni assured supporters that the essence of her music remains constant. “While my name is shifting, the essence of my artistry remains unchanged; the heart, values and soul I pour into my music continue to guide my craft.”
The artist also took the opportunity to thank fans for their “overwhelming love and support” for the debut EP, Labour of Love, which was recently released. Zaituni described the project as a shared creation between the artist and their audience, stating, “It truly means the world to me. This project is yours as much as it is mine.”
