The Open Institute is excited to announce the Open Data Day Kenya hackathon on Saturday 22nd February 2014. It will be held simultaneously in 3 cities: Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa. In Nairobi the vent will be at PAWA 254. In Kisumu it will be at Maseno University, Town campus and in Mombasa it will be held at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Mombasa Campus.
The International Open Data Day is a gathering of citizens in cities around the world to develop applications, liberate data, create visualizations and publish analyses using open public data to show support for and encourage the adoption of data policies by the world’s local, regional and national governments. The event engages the local communities in the locations to do this.
The 3 events in Kenya are being coordinated by a steering committee consisting of a lead in each of the towns and the Community Lead at the Open Institute. They are as follows:
- Evan Greene-Low – Co-founder of LakeHub based in Kisumu
- Ahmed Maawy – Lead for Mombasa Tech Community based in Mombasa
- Simeon Oriko – Community Lead at the Open Institute based in Nairobi
Every one of the leads has a team in each of the cities that will coordinate the activities leading up to, and during the events.
