Brand Strategist and Founder of SHK Consulting, Shreya Karia, has been awarded as one of ‘Africa’s Women Leaders for 2020’ by the World Women Leadership Congress (WWLC).
The Awards which took place on 8th December 2020 via a virtual ceremony recognized exceptional African women leading the way in their respective industries.
Shreya’s consulting firm has been at the forefront of driving the visibility of home-grown brands globally and equally. Since its inception, the company’s footprint has expanded to projects not just regionally but, in the Middle East and Europe. The company has left its mark on brands such as Forbes Africa, Rémy Martin, the Marriott Group and Superbrands, to name a few, having garnered awards for some of these.
The WWLC identifies and celebrates outstanding achievements by women through their initiatives and innovations across all industry sectors in leadership roles. By recognizing distinguished achievements of women as leaders, executives, and decision-makers, younger women are encouraged to make a difference and break the glass ceiling further.
On her acceptance speech, Shreya Karia noted, “ I am honored to have been recognized in the company of exceptional female leaders who are leading the frontier. It comes at a time when 2020 has been a year of crisis and has forced us to define what good leadership requires to navigate this uncertainty meaningfully. For my part, I hope that I can continue to inspire and support the aspirations of younger women to take up senior roles and further drive a positive agenda for growth in the next generation”.
Women across Africa from different industries like banking, technology, oil and gas were well-represented under the Africa Leadership Awards 2020. Other notable recipients include Governor Caroline Abel, of Central Bank of Seychelles and Modupe Lanre-Akinsiun, Head of Leadership Coca-Cola Nigeria. From Kenya, three awardees were selected including Sandrine Henton, Director at Educate Global, Eileen Laskar, Founder & President, CDI- Africa Coaching Group and Shreya Karia.
Award winners are decided through intense research the process followed by jury selection. The criteria used to determine winners includes the candidates’ contribution to building sustainable leadership, supporting gender diversity and inclusion in the workplace, promotion of women’s empowerment and the ability to influence strategy whilst optimizing resources.
